Step 1: Blot Up Liquid

Press clean paper towels firmly into the area to soak up as much urine as possible. Stand on them if needed. Replace until the towels come up dry.

Step 2: Rinse with Cold Water

Pour a small amount of cold water on the area and blot again. This dilutes the urine and pulls more of it out of the fibres or padding.

Step 3: Apply Enzyme Cleaner

Saturate the area with an enzyme-based pet stain cleaner. Enzymes break down the uric acid crystals that ordinary cleaners leave behind — this is what removes both the stain and the smell.

Step 4: Let It Work and Air Dry

Cover with a clean cloth and let the enzyme cleaner work for the full time stated on the bottle (often several hours). Air dry completely before allowing pets back on the area.

Step 5: Special Care for Wool

Handle with extreme care throughout. Use cold water only and the gentlest dabbing motion. After treatment, reshape the item and lay flat to dry — never hang wool as it will stretch.

Pro Tip

Never use ammonia-based cleaners on pet urine — pets associate the smell with their own marking and will return to the same spot. Vinegar can mask the smell temporarily, but only enzymes fully eliminate it. — Cold water only. Hand wash or use a delicate machine cycle with wool-specific detergent (e.g. Woolite).
