Step 1: Blot Up Liquid

Press clean paper towels firmly into the area to soak up as much urine as possible. Stand on them if needed. Replace until the towels come up dry.

Step 2: Rinse with Cold Water

Pour a small amount of cold water on the area and blot again. This dilutes the urine and pulls more of it out of the fibres or padding.

Step 3: Apply Enzyme Cleaner

Saturate the area with an enzyme-based pet stain cleaner. Enzymes break down the uric acid crystals that ordinary cleaners leave behind — this is what removes both the stain and the smell.

Step 4: Let It Work and Air Dry

Cover with a clean cloth and let the enzyme cleaner work for the full time stated on the bottle (often several hours). Air dry completely before allowing pets back on the area.

Step 5: Special Care for Upholstery

Work in small sections and blot frequently. After treatment, fan the area dry or use a hairdryer on a cool setting to prevent watermarks forming as the fabric dries.

Never use ammonia-based cleaners on pet urine — pets associate the smell with their own marking and will return to the same spot. Vinegar can mask the smell temporarily, but only enzymes fully eliminate it. — Use cold water sparingly. Too much moisture can damage foam backing and cause watermarks on the fabric surface.
